We will discuss what audiences on different social media platforms want to see and why tailoring content to each platform is so valuable when growing a brand.

Pulitzer Center: Raising Awareness of Underreported Global Issues
Flagler College students will present international reporting projects they’d like to carry out in the country of their choice. In April, the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting in Washington, D.C., will award one student $3,000 to complete their project. The nonprofit center was founded in 2006 to support quality journalism. The center’s Campus Consortium has a partnership with Flagler College and about three dozen other institutions.

“They’re just video games.” Except that of course they aren’t. Despite the stereotypes, we know that games are increasingly finding fans across demographics and their impacts are being seen in more and more places. In fact, the current “hottest” show in America is a video game adaptation. As games continue to grow in sophistication, both technologically and narratively, it becomes increasingly important that we investigate what our games are communicating. For this presentation, Dr. Kyle Moody and Dr. Matthew Wysocki explore the political messages lurking in the games we play.

Telling Environmental Stories - a media-making workshop
Eric Flagg left a successful career as an environmental scientist to pursue an interest that he thought could significantly impact the world — documentary filmmaking. Moonlighting as a college digital film instructor, Flagg makes films with a focus on environmental issues, American history and off-beat characters. Gimme Green (Mountainfilm 2007), a graduate school film project made with fellow student Isaac Brown, studies America’s obsession with its largest irrigated crop: lawns. Terra Blight (Mountainfilm 2012), also made with Brown, looks at the environmental component that accompanies our gargantuan appetite for computers.
